• Walkways to interact with a stream or river
• Predator trapping and rubbish cleanups along urban waterways

What it will not fund

• Projects designed for commercial or personal profit
• Projects creating a conflict of interest for the council as consenting authority

Checklist

What Horizons Freshwater Grant says you need:

• Landowner permission at time of application
• Project completed by 30 June 2027
• Brief report after the project
• Funding agreement with Horizons Regional Council

Common things funders ask for, worth having ready:

• What exactly is the money for, and when will you spend it?
• How much do you need, and do you have quotes under three months old?
• Who benefits, and how many people?
• Your legal name, registration number and bank account in the group's name.
• A committee or board decision approving the application (some funders want a signed resolution).
• Your latest financial statements or annual return.
• Other funders you have applied to for the same thing.
