What it funds

• Venue hire
• Equipment hire, sporting equipment and uniforms
• Materials and supplies for events, workshops and arts
• Wages for a one-off project
• Operational costs such as rent, phone, power

What it will not fund

• Individuals
• Capital expenditure on buildings, vehicles or major equipment
• Routine repair and maintenance
• Travel
• Research and feasibility studies
• Retrospective costs

Good to know

Capital items such as buildings and vehicles are not funded, and wages only count for a one-off project. One grant per project per calendar year.

Checklist

What Selwyn Community Fund says you need:

• Full budget showing income and expenses
• Proof of bank account
• Annual budget or latest audited accounts
• Accountability report within one calendar year of the grant

Common things funders ask for, worth having ready:

• What exactly is the money for, and when will you spend it?
• How much do you need, and do you have quotes under three months old?
• Who benefits, and how many people?
• Your legal name, registration number and bank account in the group's name.
• A committee or board decision approving the application (some funders want a signed resolution).
• Your latest financial statements or annual return.
• Other funders you have applied to for the same thing.
