What it funds

• New initiatives that reduce landfill waste and support waste minimisation
• Community participation, education and behaviour change on waste
• One-off school grants for recycling or compost bins

What it will not fund

• General environmental education that does not specifically promote waste minimisation

Applicants must contribute their own resources, and the current round closes 3 May 2027.

Checklist

What Whangārei Waste Minimisation says you need:

• Project aligned with the Waste Management and Minimisation Plan
• Clear cost evidence, verbal quotes not accepted
• Applicant actively involved and contributing resources
• Accountability report for earlier waste funding

Common things funders ask for, worth having ready:

• What exactly is the money for, and when will you spend it?
• How much do you need, and do you have quotes under three months old?
• Who benefits, and how many people?
• Your legal name, registration number and bank account in the group's name.
• A committee or board decision approving the application (some funders want a signed resolution).
• Your latest financial statements or annual return.
• Other funders you have applied to for the same thing.
